Student Officer Team Application 2021-2022

ABSA Network is now accepting student officer applications for the 2021-2022 school year until May 16th, 2021.

We are seeking energetic and responsible students from the Muslim community to help us carry out ABSA Network’s goals of spiritual & professional development under the guidance of scholars, professors, and professionals. Through ABSA Network, we hope to facilitate a network of future leaders and Muslim ambassadors through professional development events, Islamic educational courses for youth, and research projects that tackle Islamophobia. The 2021-2022 officer team will work on implementing and managing ABSA Career Committees, resources for ABSA chapters, and creating a professional network of Shia students across the globe. As an ABSA Network E-board officer, you have the opportunity to grow professionally expanding your network, sharpen your leadership ability, and serve your Muslim community. Officer role benefits include leadership experience, exposure to project management software, creating change in the high school and college campuses & communities around the globe, and learning to effectively work remotely.

Officer Eligibility:

  • Must be a high school, college, or graduate school student
  • Must have interest or experience with leadership
  • Must have a strong work ethic
  • Must be willing to work and collaborate within a team
  • Must submit all application materials (form, video, resume) before MAY 16th, 2021

Application Process

  1. Review the 2021-2022 Officer Guide (this page)
  2. Complete the 2021-2022 Officer Application Form
  3. Submit your resume and application video in the following form.
    • Submit Resumes in .pdf format
    • Video Guidelines (College Students)
      • Answer the following questions in 2 minutes or less (cameras on)
      • Q1: What motivated you to become part of ABSA Network?
      • Q2: What is one thing you are committed to helping change on college campuses?
  4. All application material (form, resume, and video) MAY 16th, 2021

Career Committees

The ABSA Career Committees seeks to create a professional network that provides ABSA students with skills to be successful in their respective careers. Each career committee hosts professional development workshops including resume workshops, industry professional panels, round robin networking, etc once a month. The 2021-2022 tentative career committee list is below (1 Chair (College Student) + 1 Coordinator (High School Student) for each committee):

  • Business/Tech Committee: Business, Finance, Human Resources, Information Systems, etc.
  • Engineering Committee: Chemical, Mechanical, BioEng, Software, Computer Science, etc.
  • Health Sciences Committee: Pre-Med, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Public Health, etc.
  • Education Committee: Early Education, Child Development, Psychology, Sociology, etc.
  • Arts Committee: Graphic Design, Journalism, Art, Marketing, Historical Studies, etc.
  • Social Sciences Committee: Pre-Law, Political Science, Communications, Economics, etc.

Open roles descriptions

The term of all officer roles begins on June 1st, 2021 and ends on June 1st, 2022.

President
  • Liaison between BOT + E-Board
    • Retain strong communication channel through monthly BOT report
    • Approve committee programs/events in collaboration with BOT
    • Approve finances in collaboration with BOT
    • Collaborate with ABSA Spiritual Coordinator
  • Implement ABSA General Events (4 events/year)
  • Create yearly ABSA annual report + yearly calendar
  • Schedule/Run E-Board Meetings
  • Attend weekly E-Board Meetings & ABSA Network meetings as needed
  • Attend ABSA General Event & Committee Events as needed
Senior Vice President (SVP)
  • Liaison to all ABSA Chapters
    • Network & strengthen communication with ABSA Chapters
    • Manage ABSA Chapter yearly registration/membership forms
    • Manage & market ABSA Chapter Resources
    • Onboard new ABSA Chapters
    • Encourage ABSA Chapters to participate in EduDev/ProDev projects
  • Collaborate with President on operations tasks
  • Attend weekly E-Board Meetings & ABSA Network meetings as needed
  • Attend ABSA General Event & Committee Events as needed
Vice President of Projects
  • Liaison to Al-Kisa Foundation
    • Manage and facilitate student led projects
  • Manage Muslim Think Tank (MTT) & Muslim Ambassadors Program
    • Encourage ABSA Chapters to participate in program
    • Manage enrollment, onboarding, & participation
    • Collaborate with MTT committee to track research
  • Collaborate with Safinat Ul Ilm content development team for marketing efforts
  • Attend weekly E-Board Meetings & ABSA Network meetings as needed
  • Attend ABSA General Event & Committee Events as needed
Vice President of Technology
  • Manages all ABSA related technology including
    • Infinity (Project Management Software)
    • Zoom Account, MS Teams Channel, GSuite, WhatsApp, & Remind
  • Creates all zoom links for ABSA meetings
  • Manages and updates ABSA Network’s website
    • Regular website additions/updates based on new ideas/programs
  • Attend weekly E-Board Meetings & ABSA Network meetings as needed
  • Attend ABSA General Event & Committee Events as needed
Vice President of Marketing
  • Manages all ABSA related marketing platforms including
    • Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, WhatsApp
  • Create and implement ABSA Monthly mailer through mailchimp
  • Creates promotional content (flyers, videos, etc) for ABSA Network’s events
  • Runs social media campaigns to increase member engagement
  • Works with VP of Projects to post Safinat Ul Ilm content posts
  • Attend weekly E-Board Meetings & ABSA Network meetings as needed
  • Attend ABSA General Event & Committee Events as needed
Vice President of Finance
  • Creates budget proposal for fall and spring semester
  • Handles reimbursements, donations, etc with approval of President/BOT
  • Leads fundraising efforts and applies for grants/scholarships
  • Manages donation platform and donation campaigns
  • Reviews ABSA Chapters + Career Committee funding requests
  • Attend weekly E-Board Meetings & ABSA Network meetings as needed
  • Attend ABSA General Event & Committee Events as needed
Career Committee Chair (College Student)
  • Organize 1 career event per month
    • Example: Career Panel, Round Robin Networking, Mock Interviews, etc
  • Manage Career Committee Linkedin Group + IG Page
  • Responsibilities for each event
    • Organize event speakers, event logistics, and run event
    • Collaborate with VP of Marketing on event flyer
    • Collaborate with VP of Technology to get zoom link
    • Create event slides & increase member engagement
  • Attend weekly E-Board Meetings & ABSA Network meetings as needed
  • Attend ABSA General Event & Committee Events as needed
  • Run and manage committee meetings with Leads (1/month)
Career Committee Coordinator (High School Student)
  • Collaborate with Committee Chair to organize career events
  • Collaborate to manage Career Committee LinkedIn Group + IG Page
  • Collaborate to manage responsibilities for each event
    • Organize event speakers, event logistics, and run event
    • Collaborate with VP of Marketing on event flyer
    • Collaborate with VP of Technology to get zoom link
    • Create event slides & increase member engagement
  • Attend Committee Meeting (1/month)
  • Attend ABSA General Event & Committee Events as needed
